My parents owned a convenience store in a rural area of Alabama throughout most of my life. I worked there after school and summers as a cashier and bookkeeper. This helped me to develop my customer service skills from an early age. I also learned how to run a business as the owner and what it takes to keep customers and gain new ones. In my past, I worked in the insurance industry for 18 years with Assurant Employee Benefits. I started in an entry-level position and worked up through the ranks to being a Business Analyst. I worked closely with the sales force and was involved in the selling process, answering customers’ questions regarding the company’s electronic file capabilities. This started me thinking about one day being an agent, but the company did not have a program to get a new agent started. Once my position was moved to Kansas City, I was contacted by one of the District Offices to come work as an agent. It occurred to me at that point that I could put both pasts together and be an agency owner and agent for Farmers. I have had my own agency now for just over 2 years.
