According to the 2010 US Census, Etowan County has a population of more than 104,400. The county seat is Gadsden. Etowah is derived from a Native American Cherokee word meaning "edible tree". Although Etowah is the smallest land mass county in the state, it is the most densely populated, and the entire county comprises the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
